Estée Lauder | Positioned for a Rebound

Current Price: $102.16
Market Capitalization: $36.81B

In capital markets, perception often swings faster than reality. Estée Lauder | EL is a world-class company temporarily out of favor. But beneath the short-term noise lies a premium beauty company with a strong brand portfolio, global reach, and a sustained competitive advantage poised for a turnaround story – making it a compelling security for patient, value-oriented investors. The last two years, the beauty company has seen its stock price cut nearly in half, limited by macro slowdowns and significant delays post pandemic recovery in their key markets.

Estée Lauder’s brand remains trusted and timeless – making it culturally durable to the pandemic slowdowns. Estée Lauder has built a powerhouse portfolio that spans demographics and global cultures. This diversity acts as a stabilizer: when one region softens, another often strengthens, when one brand matures, another is in growth phase. Estée Lauder’s competitive advantage is significant – customers consistently pay a premium for their brands associated to quality and prestige. Rich Research and Development expenses in skincare and fragrance continue to yield category leading products. Most importantly, legacy trust by investors to evolve in new markets at whatever means necessary. I believe the market often struggles to value lasting companies going through mediocre headwinds. Today, Estée Lauder trades at a valuation that implies its best days have since passed. But the underlying value economics suggest the exact opposite.

Do not forget, the company’s gross margins remain at roughly 73 percent, a testament to its pricing power and brand recognition. The globally beauty market is expected to grow 5-10 percent annually, with luxury skincare and fragrance leading – the two categories Estée Lauder dominates its competitors.

Management is committed to a multi-year artificial intelligence cost optimization plan aimed at improving margins and to continue to optimize its supply chain – improve predictive supply and demand measures. The infusion of artificial intelligence in the beauty industry targets $1 billion in cost savings by 2026-2027. When you combine that with a reemergence of normal travel patterns and continued demand for prestige products, Estée Lauder’s earnings look to be substantially higher 36 months out than its price today.

Recommendation:

Long Call EL – it is currently UNDERVALUED.
